Convener

Film and Memory in American Cinema

A frequent presenter in the last few years of the Christian Scholar's Conference, Dr. Brandi Kellett will convene a panel and facilitate a discussion around film and memory in American Cinema.  Our talks will explore the trajectory of film, focussing on cinematic trends in blockbuster, seminal Westerns, as well as documentaries which explore environmental decline and its impact on everyday Americans.  Questions which will be explored include: How do choices in the film industry shape the way we approach and think about outsiders and heroes?  How is community formed and enhanced by fear of "the other"?  What choices make a film compelling, and how do audiences respond to the spectacle of film?  In the age of Netflix and easily accessed documentaries, are millennials well informed "couch activists" or are they responding thoughtfully to the realities they see in documentaries.

Women's Forum: Conversations on Race

Real Women, Real Issues, Real Hope

Join us for an evening of honest conversation as we seek to understand the many facets of race in American culture and explore our own racial experience alongside one another. We’ll spend the evening learning about the language associated with racial differences and hearing the stories of real women from diverse backgrounds in the Nashville community before we dive into a small group discussion about how race impacts our lives every day.

Connect with other women who share your same interest in justice and mercy issues relating specifically to women. Registration is required and a buffet dinner will be served.
